Keeping the Tradition Alive....

The North Shore Jazz Project, an initiative to revive the North Shore of Boston as a jazz mecca. It recalls the days when world class artists performed at Sandy's Jazz Revival, right on Cabot Street in Beverly. The NSJP is more than just another music performance program.

The North Shore Jazz Project will produce an hour long television series on the North Shore

Our PILOT PROGRAM >> centers on Beverly High School music students. We will bring in a prominent musician to run a workshop through their school music program, culminating in a series of jazz and blues shows.

NSJP has an
important educational component >>

WHO'S INVOLVED

Center for Independent Documentary
The Center for Independent Documentary has twenty years of experience in collaborating with independent producers to create films and videos on issues of contemporary social and cultural concern.  These programs have been broadcast nationally and locally on public and cable television, won numerous awards, and all are in distribution nationwide to educational markets. To our knowledge, the extent of our cooperative arrangement with independent film and video producers is unique. Once CID is involved in a project, it becomes totally committed to its successful completion and distribution: contributing production equipment, access to discounted post-production facilities and providing fundraising assistance, distribution assistance, fiscal sponsorship and creative, even moral support.

The Crew:

The Host: We have an agreement with a veteran national television and radio commentator to host of the North Shore Jazz Project. At this time we are not at liberty to disclose the name but are looking forward to working with such a savvy broadcasting personality.

Director: Henry Ferrini has been making award-winning films on the North Shore for over 30 years. His latest film, Polis is This: Charles Olson and the Persistence of Place was called by the Boston Phoenix, “the best film made about an American poet ever.” It played on PBS and internationally at museums and universities. www.PolisIsthis.com.  He collaborated with Sandy Berman on several jazz and blues television shows in the 80’s. After Sandy’s death, he worked to transform the club into an educational foundation. This program is an extension of this work. He is presently working on Lester Lives a feature documentary on the jazz icon Lester Young. http://lesterlives.wordpress.com

She has taught at Endicott College and Northern Essex Community College and is the editor of Zingology.com, the arts zine.
